Photovoltaic Glass Recycling: Addressing the Solar Panel Waste Challenge

18 5 月, 2026

The rapid growth of solar energy installations worldwide is creating a looming waste management challenge: millions of end-of-life photovoltaic panels that will need recycling in the coming decades. SENSORT has developed specialized sorting technology to address this emerging market.

Photovoltaic panels contain high-quality glass, silicon, silver, copper, and aluminum — all valuable materials that can be recovered through proper recycling. SENSORT’s technology focuses on efficiently separating glass from the other materials after panel dismantling, achieving glass recovery rates above 95%.

“The solar industry has a responsibility to plan for end-of-life management of its products,” said SENSORT’s Director of Market Development. “Our technology ensures that the glass from old solar panels doesn’t go to waste but instead re-enters the manufacturing supply chain.”

With the International Energy Agency projecting that solar panel waste could reach 78 million tons by 2050, the market for PV recycling technology is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.
