Flat Glass Recycling: New Technology Opens Doors for Construction Waste

17 5 月, 2026

Construction and demolition waste represents one of the largest untapped sources of recyclable glass, with millions of tons of flat glass ending up in landfills each year. SENSORT has developed a specialized sorting solution that addresses the unique challenges of recycling post-consumer flat glass.

Flat glass presents different challenges compared to container glass: it often contains coatings, laminates, and spacer bars, and may be mixed with other construction materials. SENSORT’s new solution combines multiple sorting technologies to handle these complex material streams effectively.

“Flat glass recycling has historically been economically challenging due to contamination issues,” said the product development team. “Our integrated approach changes the equation, making it commercially viable to recover high-quality glass cullet from construction waste.”

The system has been piloted at several European construction waste recycling facilities, achieving glass recovery rates exceeding 90% with purity suitable for use in new flat glass production.
